Summer is here and what better way to spend a day than kayaking on the Chicago River. Unlike the bustle and excitement of downtown’s dazzling buildings and crowded Riverwalk, Wateriders’ Northwest location offers a chance to unwind and enjoy an urban forest amidst the birds and turtles enjoying the river’s reemerging biodiversity. We will do a self-guided paddle starting at Rockwell, paddling 50 minutes up and back. Wateriders will supply kayaks, paddles, life vests, and initial instruction for any beginners. After our paddle we will gather at Soul and Smoke located right at our kayak location for a tasty lunch (optional and your expense). A BBQ and soul food hidden gem, it serves beer and alcohol. We can relax and enjoy our meal with views of the river from the patio or dining room. Vegan options available. After you sign up with LSSC and then Wateriders, paying your $50 fee, we’ll email you a Paddle Consent Form to print out, sign and bring to the venue. (They have extras if you forget!) Remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hat and water bottle.
